Understanding The Proper Care Of Headsets

By Kristina T. Strickland

Telephone headsets are now a common sight, both at home and at work. People use them all the time for listening to music, as an addition to the telephone or to talk while driving. However, with all this extensive use it is necessary to take good care of your headsets so they remain functional.

To preserve the quality of headsets for the longest possible period of time, some tips are mentioned below, which, if you follow, will help you protect them from the wear and tear that is an inevitable result of everyday use.

First of all, keep them away safely. This is an obvious statement but it is still habitual with many people to toss their headsets carelessly inside a drawer or bag, without giving thought to how much damage this will cause to them.

To prevent the wires from getting damaged, make sure they are not wrapped or folded around anything, particularly not the ear pieces. Also keep your headset in a pouch so that they are protected when not in use.

The next point to keep in mind is that headsets should be protected from high temperatures. They have plastic in them, which is prone to damage in high temperature conditions.

Third, protect your headsets from moisture. Do not make the mistake of leaving them openly in the rain or in any moist place because that is a sure way to damage them.

Fourth point; always make sure your headsets are squeaky clean. Sweat, skin oils, dirt etc on either the microphone or the ear pieces will not only cause serious damage to them but also result in poor sound quality and disturbed communication.

And last, when not using you headset makes sure you store it away carefully. Do not pull on the wires; you will just end up damaging them. Instead unplug them carefully. Be careful with this useful little device so that it works longer and better while you own it.
