Stretching The Use Of Your Printer Cartridges

By Harry Davies

If your current jobs deal with the daily printing of documents than you are well versed in what it involves to keep ink in the printer. This is the most expensive part of maintaining this machine in fact. Luckily, there are several different things you can do to stretch your money a little bit further. Things as simple as knowing how to better use your printer or how to buy replacement printer cartridges can have a significant impact on the amount of money you are spending.

One of the easiest tips to put in place is being sure you don't like your ink dry up. You see, if a printer is not used on a regular basis the ink will dry and it will have to be replaced. This is easily remedied by making sure you print at least one page on a weekly basis.

The next thing you can do is be sure you have selected the proper printing mode for each task. Documents that will only be for your own personal use can be printed in a low resolution to limit the amount of ink that is used. Plain text documents should be printed in a black ink only format to save the color ink cartridge.

Proofread all documents thoroughly before you print so you don't have to reprint if you find you have made a mistake the first time. This not only saves ink but also saves paper as well. Over time this can equal out to a lot of money saved on both office supplies.

This suggestions are all simple and can save you some money by allowing you to stretch the ink you have. To save money when it comes to replacing an empty cartridge you can find some additional suggestions below.

If you are running a business that needs to primarily print high quality items you should opt for purchasing OEM cartridges since they come straight from the original manufacturer. These, however, are the pricier option but a must for some businesses.

Alternately, you could also try buying a compatible version that has been produced with the license of the OEM so the quality is practically equally. This options is a little bit less expensive but some types might not be available.

As a last option you could go with refurbished cartridges since this can be the most inexpensive option. With this savings also comes an increased risk of running into problems though. Some of these refurbished products are made with skimped ink which often causes clogging. If you're on a really tight budget this is the best option to go with, but you have to be willing to deal with problems when they do arise.

In essence, the best way to get more from an ink purchase is through buying compatible cartridges and taking every measure to conserve as much ink as possible when using the printer.
