The Different Tablet Models That You Can Choose From

By David Ginelt

These days it seems as if everyone wants or has a tablet computer device and the market keeps growing. That is why companies are trying very hard to compete, sometimes even competing with themselves to increase market share. They do this by offering different sizes, styles, and designs even within their own product line.

Trying to find the perfect model and size for the overall consumer base proves to be tedious. It seems that customers want a more customized model tablet and this can widely vary both in size preference, design and features. No individual model encompasses all features coveted because all consumer needs are different.

With each size offered in tablets, there is a key problem in terms of marketing on paper the actual size. This can be a major deciding factor for a consumer as to their needs when looking at the three most sold sizes of 5-inch, 7-inch, and 10-inch. In print, these size variances appear slight when in reality the weight and feel of such devices can be quite different when the consumer is holding them.

Tablet size is determined by measuring the screens diagonally. What this means to the consumer is that for each size up there is a marked change in the screen area in some cases doubling the size of the overall tablet. This change can make the marketing on paper for such tablets appear misleading.

The 10-inch tablets have the most advantages in terms of capability with documents, web browsing, e-book reading, and gaming. For instance, when viewing a document or photos there is less need to resize for legibility. Also, when web browsing, it is easier to see the search bar without resizing and the keyboard is larger. This size gives it many advantages but also harbors the disadvantage of being heavier and larger to transport.

However, for something lightweight and portable, a 7-inch tablet would be more suitable. Although it's only around half the size of it's 10-inch cousin, the screen is certainly adequate for playing games and watching movies.

You will not have to do so much resizing of documents with one of these which is a big advantage. On the other hand, one of the drawbacks could be that you may need to resize in order to see a web site on this seven inch tablet screen. And it is not small enough to be held in one hand and usually will not fit into a pocket.

If the consumer is in need of a tablet that is easily carried in a small purse or pocket, the best choice is the 5-inch or lower tablets. They are larger than the most smartphones, giving them more ease of functionality for documents, gaming, web browsing, etc., but still allow discreet transport. Of course, all functionality will be on a much smaller size display making resizing necessary.
