Now you may consider this odd, but I like to make up songs while driving down the road. Ever since I was small, I was doing it.Although my parents encouraged this budding singer/making-up-songs-as-she-went-along-child, I am sure there were times when they wished I would just shut up!
I still do this in the car up to now. I learned that by the time I got home, as I began writing down the lyrics of my composition, I could not recall the tune and lyrics of what I just sang. Unfortunately, I could not remember the good portions of the songs (I am the only one that hears any of the songs I sing, so this is only my opinion!). As a result, I procured a cassette recorder for my own as a solution to my tiny dilemma. Now when I am traveling down the road, creating, and if I think I am on to something, whether it is an idea or song, I record it. When I attend lectures, I use it to record the speakers' talk. I also used it when I conducted interviews for my pieces for the local paper regarding human concerns.
Music has already existed in any way from the moment everything came into being. According to some, the creation of the whole world began from a single sound and from then on, everything developed their own unique beat.
There are many scientific studies showing the benefits of music and sound showing that sound waves can produce changes in the immune, endocrine, autonomic and neuropeptide systems of the body. Sound waves produced varies from one matter to another. Identified as the Sleeping Prophet, Edgar Cayce envisioned that sound and music treatment would become the future's medical breakthrough. Sound and music therapy has been established to help patients in their recovery as shown in the outcome of institutions using this kind of treatment.
In several cultures, singing still forms part of their daily lives until now, benefiting their welfare. The ancient mystics knew of these benefits, and encouraged the use of sound for healing. This ancient wisdom and tradition seem to be more advanced and science is just not far behind.
I think most people are self conscious of the sound of their voice, especially singing. Nevertheless, I still sing even though my singing isn't that wonderful. Recording my voice and listening it over again has certain advantages. This is because each person's voice has frequencies unique to the individual and affects the biochemical processes of the body. Some say that the pattern of our voices direct how our cells work.
My observation is that my voice weakens whenever I am not able to sing for quite some time. Our voices are like our bodies, they need exercise too.But no matter what you believe about sound, or singing, music just makes you feel good. Your voice is your own so regardless of how it sounds, it resonates your whole being.
And you'll never know, one day you may create a beautiful melody with a message. Just be certain that your handy recorder is with you all the time so that you can record that unforgettable moment.
